Jahn Sportpark Stadium Light
Friedrich-Ludwig-Jahn-Sportpark is a sports complex in my neighborhood in Berlin. Its stadium is an ancient beast, built 7 years after the end of WW2 by the GDR government. The four massive floodlight structures that light its football field can been seen from all over Berlin. Before unification, the GDR National Team played many of its matches on this pitch, while the West Berlin team played in the Olympiastadium. Today, the stadium is used for 2nd & 3rd Bundesliga games, as well as local track meets. It probably doesn’t have long to live, as developers want to tear it down and put up a more modernized facility.
I have a special fondness for these odd light structures, as they have become a landmark for my neighborhood. They are an important part of Berlin’s humble skyline.
This prop features 17 scripted light effects. I chose not to use to strong flood lights, as they drown out the model. Lights in C:S don’t cast forwards even if you point them, so the floodlights wound up creating huge circles of light at their base, but almost no light on the field. What good its that! So I ditched them for the dimmer lights, which look fantastic. I’ll have to figure out how to light the field with other methods (like CO did with their Match Day stadiums, where the field is lit with an illumination map).
