Realistic Highway Network – Islands Map
If there’s one criticism I would level at Cities: Skylines, it’s the awful quality of the pre-built road networks. It’s almost as if the developers added them as a last minute idea. Absolutely no beauty or creativity in their 3 and 4-way interchanges.
I’ve completely rebuilt the roads on the “Islands” map, making all the interchanges far more realistic.
Each interchange and off-ramp section (into future districts) are drawn from real-world locations. I have taken inspiration from roads in Dortmund, Hamburg, Los Angeles, Alabama, Copenhagen and several other places.
The roads on this map now flow like real highways, and look infinitely better. I have also lined all interchanges with beech and alder trees to make them look like they aren’t just plonked onto a bare landscape.
MODS you might need to play this save:
Unlock all – I unlocked all to give me access to all roads, I’m not sure if it would affect the save if it were locked.
Unlimted money *possibly* – I have reset the debt and pumped the balance up to 1 million, but the city is losing over 8 thousand per week due to all the new roads – you could start earning enough before that one million is gone!
Tree Brush – I’ve deleted all trees outside the 25-square area using this, but I don’t think removing the mod would matter. Just bare it in mind.
Remove Pillars – I DID use this at the beginning but I’ve since removed it and built all the interchanges without the mod. Although I may have missed one or two, so if you see a pillar through a road, this mod may be needed.
All areas purchasable – this mod is compulsory as I obviously already unlocked all 25 areas for this save.
That’s about it. I hope some of you have a go at this save with the really nice network laid down for you.
