TV Tower Berlin 1:1
The Berliner Fernsehturm (Television Tower) is one of Berlin’s most iconic landmarks. At 368m tall, it can be seen from everywhere in city and beyond. It was constructed by the Soviets in 1969 during the Cold War, at the heart of the “space race” between the East and the West. It is no accident that the design reminds us of Sputnik, the first Earth satellite. Interestingly, the German word for television, “Fernseher”, literally translates to “far seeing” — the Fernsehturm is a tower that tramits television images, allowing people to see what is far away. There are two observation decks in the sphere, one of which features a slowly rotating restaurant and bar.
This model is a re-scale of tobse’s excellent Berlin TV tower. The sphere and it’s LOD were created completely from scratch by me. If you download/upvote my version, please go upvote his as well! I’ve learned a ton about C:S asset creation by exporting and analyzing his efforts.
TRIS: 5,572
maps: 2048×2048 diffuse, illumination, specular, alpha, & normal
LOD tris: 966
LOD maps: 512×512 diffuse, illumination, specular, & normal
Changes that I made:
- scaled up to 1:1, now looks good next to svenpotsdam’s Alexanderplatz assets
- new ball (main and LOD) built & baked completely from scratch, proportionally faithful to the actual tower
- new set of props (mostly lighting, less pedestrian stuff)
- many LOD geometry and texture adjustments for a smooth transition
- new textures for walkway rings and rotunda windows
- adjustments to the diffuse, illumination, & specular maps to try to get a shiny silver surface
Other 1:1 Berlin monuments in the pipeline: Brandenburger Tor, Reichstag, Rotes Rathaus, Soviet War Memorial
Pls don’t forget to uprate! And who will be the first to support my efforts with a Euro via paypal? :O
