Downtown Exchange
Description: A large roundabout complex designed to allow heavy crosstown traffic to pass through a city center with limited congestion.

Another circular city centerpiece from me. This one was designed to alleviate an issue my previous city center had with highway traffic trying to cross from one city to the other.
This design was created to accomodate two crossing highways that pass straight through the high density center of a city while maintaining the circular design I love. The highway itself transfers into roundabouts when reaching the center which directs traffic around the city centerpiece. There is also an overpass access that connects the centerpiece to the outside city without disturbing highway traffic.
On and off ramps allow access for downtown traffic to the highway while also working as a starting point for outbound roads to the rest of the city.

Since it’s such a large intersection it is expensive to place and requires a good deal of flat land.
I have also tested it in a very high density city and it handles heavy traffic very well with the only backups being caused by traffic problems that start elsewhere in the city.
