About the model
This model is very large for a growable! About 144 meters high. It’s comparable to the Sherry Netherlands Hotel.
This model has about 5200 tris and a 2048×1024 texture, with a diffuse, shadow, normal, illumination and specularmap.This model has a custom LoD, which is about 600 tris with a 256×256 texture, with a diffuse, specular and illumination map. That’s a very beefy LoD and I tried to get it down as much as I could, but this is a really big building and with it’s distinct shape couldn’t get it down anymore.
About the building
This is one of the latest setback style skyscrapers, which are exclusively found in New York. The “Wedding Cake” style refers to buildings with many distinct tiers, each set back from the one below resulting in a shape like a wedding cake. The style is almost exclusive to New York City, thanks to the 1916 zoning code ( prompted by the “shocking” height and verticality of the EQUITABLE BUILDING ) which forced buildings to reduce their shadows at street level, but occasional examples are found in other cities with dense business districts.
Wedding Cake buildings range across a spectrum of early-to-mid-20th century stylistic treatments, some with eclectic or art moderne facades and some modern or international. The buildings can be grouped into one style because their setbacks are usually their most distinguishing design feature.
Some of the major architecture firms which were most active in this style were Buchman & Kahn, Emery Roth & Sons, and Sylvan Bien.
The Hampshire House is an architectural icon, which conveys the finest design elements of the post depression era. The Hampshire House is noted for its spectacular, steeply-pitched copper roof with two tall chimneys. This 37-story building was started in January, 1931, by its developer, the H. K. Ferguson Company of Cleveland, and completed in 1938 by Cau♥♥♥♥ & Evans. Initially a rental apartment building, it was converted to a Cooperative building in 1949. There are some terraces, a canopied entrance with a revolving door, a health club, a doorman and concierge, and an extensive list of amenities.
The Hampshire House is a brilliant combination of old world character, charm and elegance with the effortlessness, newness and conveniences offered by modern technology. A solid and resilient structure provides security, comfort, privacy and spaciousness. Location-wise, it really doesn’t get better than this. Located in the epicenter of Manhattan it is convenient to public transportation, shopping and restaurants and has the most spectacular views. It is located on Central Park South near the main entrance to the park – one of the most inspiring combinations of architecture, landscape design, and urban planning around the globe.
