Large span high arch bridge (PROCEDURAL)
Large span high arch bridge (PROCEDURAL) by pauljchris
Large span multipurpose bridge for crossing large distances. As a procedural object you can change its width , height and scale or any combination of these while in game to take any type of road from a humble pedestrian walkway right up to a multi track high way bridge with railroad or any combination you can think of ! A matching procedural pillars model is also included so that you can change the spacing of the pillars and elevation of the appraoch roads on either side. Originally built for Cities XL by myself and converted for use in Cities: Skylines.
IMPORTANT You must subscribe to the Procedural objects mod before downloading this asset or the bridge will not be accessible within your game. Before using the Procedural assets mod it is highly recommended to watch a short video by the author of the mod in order to familiarize yourself with the controls for manipulating procedural objects when in the game.
Once you have subscribed to the procedural objects mod and this asset, then open up the procedural objects menu when in the game and you should see both the bridge and the pillars model in the list of models ready for placement.
Model specs
Main bridge model 2553 tris 1024 x 1024 maps d,s,n
Pillars model 379 tris 1024 x 1024 maps d,s,n
Model is UV mapped but the texture can be changed while in game by downlading any suitable texture and placing it within the mods texture folder before starting the game. Change the texture in game by using the option provided witihin the mod. Any generic concrete type texture should look ok with this model.
NB There are NO LODS with procedural objects. Instead performance is controlled by a render distance slider which is set for each object when first placed in the game world. This controls the distance when the object disappears and is no longer drawn by the engine. For very large objects such as this bridge , this number needs to be set to at least 5000.
Although not essential to load the model into the game, a number of mods are required in order to be able to place road pieces on top of the bridge without their associated bridge furniture which would obviously clash with the model and look terrible. NO pillars mod, Fine Road Anarchy, Move It, and Fine Road Tool are all used in combination to achieve this. The links to these mods can be found to the right of this page. See the screenshots above for help with the required settings if you do not already know how to use these mods.
Placement tips
1/ Position the mid span central arch of your bridge in game first. Scale and rotate it to taste and check your scale by placing a sample section of your desired road or roads across it. This can be any type of roads or combination of roads in the game that have elevated models ( which is most of them).
2/ Adjust the width of the bridge to match your chosen placed roads. You do not have to move both sides of the bridge. Since the model is symmetrical it pays to set your roads from one side to the other then bring the width of the opposite edge in to your desired width to remove any unused space. Dont forget to set the draw distance correctly before copying the model.
3/ When you are happy with your width, delete your placeholder roads and then copy and paste using CTRL-C and CTRL-V to place as many main spans as you require. Manouvre each piece into position with the mod controls to match your centre piece.
4/ When approaching the edges of the bridge, switch to the pillars model and repeat steps 1-2 for this model so that the scale and width matches that of the main model.
5/ Copy and paste the adjusted pillars model as many times as you need to complete your bridge altering the height of one end of each piece slightly to create a ramp if required.
If you have read this far then good luck making your own bridge with this asset.
