Norway: Ramberg, harborland included! (no mods required version)
Norway: Ramberg. Like fjords? Wish they had more land? Well here’s your answer! This map won’t be difficult to grow, has a good amount of flat land for large structures, and can even be played with a 9 tile limit (although you won’t see some of the amazing sights found at the edges). Cites won’t be gigantic, but they can definitely be a decent size.
This is the standard version of the map. This map is also published as a beautiful version with snow on top of the mountains, and is found here. You will also see more pictures of the map, so feel free to visit the page just to see more:
The Lofoten Islands have some of the most famous landscapes in all of Norway. The villages of Ramberg and Fredvang are at the center of this map, and are connected via a beautiful series of bridges. They offer some more land for the purposes of our game than the arguably more famous, and stunning, village of Reine. The scenery around your city is no less amazing.
Unlike most of my maps, this map is very close to the actual location. Just a little land was added to the landscape so we can actually play on the map.
The villages have little harbors in real life, so since we have so many wonderful harbor items now available in the game, I have added several large harbor pieces of land (cargo and passenger), and small boat harbor sea walls. Many thanks go out to all the people in the Skylines Nation facebook group, , who taught me how they make their harbor land using a mod. It allows me to bring you this “no mods required” harbor land, pre-made for you, with a really attractive, sharp-edged look.
The harbor plots and seawalls are set to 3 units above sea level, the perfect height for some fantastic custom port / harbor / dock items in the workshop to sit perfectly at sea level, as well as fitting the game’s cargo and passenger ship terminals very nicely. The edges are extremely sharp, so that it gives the look of being a harbor sea wall, without having to mod your game to get the custom ones available in the workshop.
Even if you do use the sea wall mod, you will appreciate the following detail: instead of having to use the terrain editor mod to make the land underwater completely flat, I have already done so along all the sharp edges of the harbor land.
Please see the photos for some ideas. I am by no means anywhere near very good at making harbors / ports, but hopefully it will allow you to see how you can construct these areas without needing ANY mods!
I also gave an example of a Norwegian-looking historic harbor town, where the houses come right up to the seawall. It looks great on this map as an alternative to the modern harbor. There are three of these harbor lands, two next to the start square for all your industrial needs, and one on the far side, on a rugged shore that is hidden from the main part of the map
