Palace of Justice (1908), Barcelona
Designed by two young Catalan architects Josep Domènech i Estapà and Enric Sagnier Villavecchia and built in 1908, with its severe and regular architecture representing the firmness of judicial authority, the Palace of Justice (Law Courts) of Barcelona dominates a large section of Lluís Companys Avenue near Ciutadella Park.
It was the second monumental public building, after the University in 1908, constructed outside the Old city following the new grid of the new Enlargement (Eixample). Though a century has gone by since its opening, this massive rectangular building has remained practically intact, unaffected by the passing of the years in which
it has housed the main law courts of Barcelona through all regimes.
