Province House
Welcome to the birthplace of Confederation!
Province House is the seat of the provincial legislature of Prince Edward Island, Canada’s smallest province. You can find it in Charlottetown, the province’s capital. Most famously it was the site of the 1864 Charlottetown Conference, which paved the way for the British North America Act in 1867 – the document that made Canada a country 150 years ago. Completed in 1847, it’s a marvellous neo-classical structure, which currently is undergoing significant restoration. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like it will be open for a while. But happy Canada Day anyways, eh?
Here it is in Google Maps[www.google.ca], if you want a look at the building IRL.
Building stats
This is a Level 3 unique building that unlocks at the Boom Town milestone.
Footprint is 10×10. No DLC or dependencies required.
I used the tax office as a template, but modified the stats to reflect the increased tourism this building actually draws. Who the frig visits a tax office on their vacation anyway? The entertainment value of the building is increased, as is its radius. It will also draw more mid and high wealth tourists than the tax office.
Cost is 25,000, upkeep 320
Model stats
This one has a lot of geometry and large textures, so be warned.
Main model – 7,160 tris
LOD – 46 tris.
Textures are 2048 and 256 with normal, illumination and specular on the main model, diffuse and specular on the LOD.
That said, I think I’m ok with these numbers as it’s a unique building. Looking back, I probably could have got away with a 1024 map setup. Ah, whatever.
I haven’t added much to the grounds, a few paths, some terrain painting and a couple of floodlights in the colonnade. If you wish to decorate it yourself, I suggest you pick up the mods More Beautification, Prop and Tree Anarchy and Prop Precision. The grounds irl are decorated with a fountain feature and flowers, etc. I avoided adding anything like that to the asset because dependencies. Some people prefer to do the detailing themselves.
It’s not 100 per cent to scale with the actual building – and I had to forego adding some of the building’s actual geometry – but it’s pretty darn close. One of these days I’ll go have a gander at the blueprints. They probably keep them next door at the archives.
If you find anything broken with this asset, please let me know. This was one I wanted to do. Confed Centre too, but it’s a massive undertaking. Green Gables is probably next.
If you’re interested in looking at the source files, remixing the asset – or even reuploading it to the workshop, you’ll find the source files here. Just please let people know that the model itself is more complex than it probably needs to be for CS. Model was done in Blender 2.78. Screenshots taken with the San Minato Theme and the Satellite LUT.
Enjoy!
