Small and Proper DCMI 2
Another DCMI! this time with the surface lanes passing over the highway. And probably the last. Man are these things difficult to make. This took me several tries, and way more time than I expected. I smoothed all the slopes and, as much as possible, the curves, while still keeping it really compact, it’s only 28×29 blocks, from the exits to entrances.
So for anyone wondering what a DCMI is, it’s a very high capacity interchange design where the lanes are crossed one over the other to allow for free-flowing traffic unimpeded by cims unfortunate need to turn left sometimes. It also requires only two height levels, here the interchange ranges between 9m below ground (the tunnels) and just 3m above ground, enough room to run the default lowest ramp height right over it. I slightly changed this, with alternating left/right side entrances rather than exits, and reduced the width of the minor bridges.
This one is designed as a service interchange, with 4 access ramps, with the crossing lanes meant to be connected to surface streets and the major highway passing underneath the interchange. But it has such high throughput, I would suggest using it to provide highway access to several high traffic surface streets, rather than just one.
I hope you use this, and tell me what you think. Thanks,
Here’s the other one I made, with the main highway passing above the interchange
