United Building
The United Building (77 West Wacker, aka RR Donnelley Building) is a riverfront skyscraper on the north edge of the Chicago Loop. It was built in the early 90s by postmodern architect Ricardo Bofill. Its 50-floor ribcage of glazed marble wraps around a grid of curtain wall glass like some sort of colossal ancient Greek skeleton hopped out of its tomb to smother its gaudy grandchildren. A classical pediment adorns the top, girded by a halo of bright lamps which present the pallid image of a ghastly floating Parthenon.
